Courage is a virtue without which one can’t follow Christ. Courage is a virtue with which one can conquer any situation of danger or pain. The follower of Christ therefore cannot but be filled with this virtue to be able to accomplish the mission of Christ. Paul exhort Timothy and all of us not to forget this. Life itself is made this way, we need courage to succeed in anything without which we can succeed in nothing but laziness . Paul as a disciple went through all sorts of challenges, persecutions, rejections, humiliations, torture but stood firm for Christ and he calls on us to be ready for this if only we want to follow Christ. And we should be guided by the Word to follow the right path however the consequences.
‎In the gospel Jesus mocks at the lack of knowledge of the scribes and Pharisees who refer to him as son of David and not God himself, and David himself referred to Jesus as the Lord, this is why we are encouraged to know the scriptures which guides us to understand what God wants us to be and not to live in ignorance like these scribes. Most people analyze things in a very naive way and think they have all knowledge and such are the ones Paul referred to as the deceivers and deceived.
