What makes us Christians? In a world filled with diverse beliefs and practices, understanding our identity as Christians is crucial. Let us explore this through Scripture, community, and our relationship with God.
Jesus is the center or our life

At the heart of Christianity is our faith in Jesus Christ. John 14:6 tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Our belief in Jesus as our Savior is the cornerstone of our faith. It is through His death and resurrection that we receive forgiveness and eternal life. Ask yourself: How does my faith in Jesus shape my daily life? Are there areas where I struggle to trust Him?
Our power to love, even enemies
Another defining aspect of being a Christian is our call to love one another. In John 13:34-35, Jesus commands us to love each other as He has loved us. This love is not just a feeling; it is an action that binds us together as a community. Are there opportunities to serve, support, or encourage those around you?
The Holy Spirit is at work in us
As Christians, we are gifted with the Holy Spirit, who guides and empowers us. Acts 1:8 reminds us that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. This power enables us to live out our faith boldly and to share the Gospel with others. Just, ask yourself, are you really attentive to His guidance and promptings?
The word of God is our light
Being a Christian means living according to the teachings of Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. The Bible provides us with the truth and wisdom we need to navigate life’s challenges. How often do you engage with Scripture?
We have a mission
Finally, our identity as Christians calls us to share the Gospel. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. This mission is a privilege and responsibility for every believer. Think about ways you can share your faith; Is there someone in your life who needs to hear about the love of Christ?
Hence, what makes us Christians is our faith in Jesus Christ, our love for one another, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our commitment to God’s Word, and our call to share the Gospel. Let us embrace these truths and live them out daily. Being a Christian is not just about belief but about living a life transformed by Christ. Let us strive to reflect His love and grace in all we do.
